Janis Clark today formally announced that she will not be a candidate in the 2026 election cycle for the United States House of Representatives in Washington's 9th Congressional District. Her announcement follows the conclusion of Washington State's official candidate filing period, held May 4-8, 2026.
"After thoughtful reflection and many conversations with family, supporters, and community members, I have decided not to file for the 2026 election," Clark stated. 'This decision was not made lightly. I am deeply grateful to everyone who encouraged me and believed in the work we set out to do."
Clark added a pointed reminder about the realities of modern campaigning: "It has been said that 'Money is the mother's milk of politics.' Check out the Federal Election Commission (FEC} campaign donations and you can examine with your own eyes-follow the money."
Despite stepping back from the race, Clark emphasized that her commitment to public service remains unwavering. She noted that the experience has strengthened her resolve to continue serving Washington State and the broader national community.
Clark's mission now continues through the Safe Homes 2026 Women Veterans Policy Report (www.safehomesintl.org), which highlights urgent challenges facing women veterans, identifies systemic gaps, and provides actionable policy recommendations for federal, state, and local leaders. The report draws on Safe Homes lnternational's 30 years of direct service experience, national research, and the lived experiences of women who served in the United States Armed Services.
"I remain committed to serving our community in meaningful ways," Clark said. "I will continue to advocate for families, economic opportunity, and the wellbeing of our region. I wish all candidates in the 2026 election the very best as they share their ideas and vision with voters."
With Clark's decision, the 2026 race for Washington's 9th Congressional District will move forward without her participation. Voters can review the certified list of filed candidates through the Washington Secretary of State's Office.
